Izvestia: “Georgian war memorial rebuilt in Moscow”

Prime Minister Vladimir Putin and Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin have unveiled a new monument in Victory Park on Moscow’s Poklonnaya Gora (Hill). The monument is a direct replica of the Military Glory Memorial that was demolished on orders from the Georgian government in Kutaisi last year.

Some Russians are happily moving into new houses built to replace those destroyed by the summer's wildfires, while others will have to wait past the construction deadline.Overall, wildfires destroyed 3,200 homes across Russia. The government ordered the construction of new houses for all those who lost their homes. Although the plan was to complete construction before December 1, Izvestia correspondents discovered that two weeks past that date, some houses were still not ready.

Meeting in St Petersburg with heads of government from the former Soviet Union, Prime Minister Vladimir Putin suggested that the National Exhibition of Economic Achievement be revived. These national exhibition halls, most of which are currently closed or used by small resellers, can be rented by CIS countries for one rouble per year over the long-term. Ukraine, Belarus, Kyrgyzstan, and Armenia have already agreed.

Russian Airborne Troops Commander Lt. Gen. Vladimir Shamanov recently survived a terrible car accident. Shamanov's BMW crashed into a MAZ truck that veered into the oncoming lane. The general's driver was killed, and the commander himself was badly injured and taken to hospital. Prime Minister Vladimir Putin visited Shamanov at the hospital and urged him to keep positive in spite of everything.
