1991: Appointed Chita mayor;
1996: Elected Chita Region governor;
2000: Reelected Chita Region governor;
2004: Reelected Chita Region governor;
2008: Elected Trans-Baikal Territory governor (the territory was a merger of the Chita Region and Agin Buryat Autonomous Area) with a term until 2013.
