1983-1990: teacher of political economy at Department of Political Economy, Vilnius Higher Party School.
1988: received Ph.D degree at the Academy of Social Sciences of the USSR Communist Party's Central Committee.
1990-1991: academic secretary at Lithuanian Institute for Economics.
1991-1993: European Department at the Ministry of Foreign Economic Relations of the Republic of Lithuania, director.

1994-1995: Minister Plenipotentiary at the Lithuanian Mission to the EU.
