Born on July 9, 1950 in the city of Yenakiyevo, Donetsk Region.

1973: Graduated from the mining technical school in Yenakiyevo.

1980: Graduated from the Donetsk Polytechnical Institute with a degree in mechanical engineering and later from the international law faculty of the Ukrainian Academy of Foreign Trade.

Over his career, Yanukovych has held a number of executive positions - director of the trucking company Ordzhonikidzugol, deputy director and general director of Donbasstransremont, and general director of Ukrugolpromtrans and Donetskavtotrans.


September 1996 - May 1997: First deputy chairman of the Donetsk Regional State Administration.

May 1999 - May 2001: Chairman of the Donetsk Regional Council.

May 2001 - November 2002: Chairman of the Donetsk Regional State Administration.

November 2002 - January 2005: Prime Minister of Ukraine.

2004: Candidate for president.

January 2005: Becomes head of the Party of Regions.

August 4, 2006 - December 18, 2007: Prime Minister of Ukraine.

December 2007: Head of the opposition Party of Regions in the Verkhovna Rada, the national parliament of Ukraine.

In 2010, Yanukovych won the presidential election in Ukraine and was sworn in on February 25, 2010.

He is married with two sons.
