Prime Minister Vladimir Putin, now on a working visit to Arkhangelsk, visits the Sevmash Production Association and inspects the nuclear-powered ballistic missile submarine Alexander Nevsky

After boarding the Alexander Nevsky, a Project 955 Borei class nuclear-powered ballistic missile submarine, Vladimir Putin listened to the report of its captain, who said the submarine had sailed out for its first high-seas trial run in late October.

The Prime Minister congratulated the submarine's crew, who was standing on the deck, on the successful tests. The crew shouted "Hurrah!" in unison.

In 2004, the keel of the Project 955 nuclear-powered ballistic missile submarine Alexander Nevsky, the second Borei class submarine, was laid at Sevmash. The Alexander Nevsky is a fourth-generation ballistic missile submarine. These submarines are to be equipped with Bulava ballistic missiles (SLBMs). The Alexander Nevsky cost an estimated 23 billion roubles. Testing is to be completed in 2012.
