Prime Minister Vladimir Putin, now on a working visit to Arkhangelsk, visits the Sevmash Production Association and inspects the nuclear-powered ballistic missile submarine Alexander Nevsky

On March 19, 2004, when this country celebrated Submariner Day, the keel of the Project 955 nuclear-powered submarine Alexander Nevsky, the second submarine of the Borei class, was laid at the Sevmash Production Association. At present, the United Shipbuilding Corporation is completing the submarine's construction. The Alexander Nevsky ranks among strategic ballistic missile submarines and will be equipped with new-generation launchers and Bulava submarine-launched ballistic missiles (SLBMs).

In December 2010, the Alexander Nevsky was removed from the slipway and subsequently launched. The submarine is currently undergoing trial runs.

* Length: 170 metres:

* Beam: 13.6 metres;

* Draught: 10 metres;

* Diving depth: 400 metres;

* Surface speed: 15 knots;

* Endurance: 90 days;

* Complement: 107 men, including 55 officers.
