In early 2010, bankruptcy proceedings were initiated at IzhAvto, and the company has been placed under receivership. The difficulties IzhAvto is currently facing are primarily due to the inefficient management of its former owners, who ultimately embezzled 6.7 billion roubles from the company.
IzhAvto's main lender is Sberbank (9.2 billion roubles in loans), which is taking measures to ensure resumed production at the plant. The United Auto Group, affiliated with Sberbank, is seeking to attract potential investors and partners for IzhAvto.
Sberbank, Russian Technologies State Corporation and AvtoVaz have developed a financial rehabilitation and resumed production plan for IzhAvto. The plan envisages increasing the plant's production capacity to 340,000 vehicles per year and transferring the production lines of some AvtoVaz models (the 2107, Priora, and Samara) as well as new Nissan and Renault models to IzhAvto.
The federal government has approved the aforementioned financial rehabilitation plan for IzhAvto and is expected to co-finance its implementation.
