Prime Minister Vladimir Putin expresses his condolences to the widow of the first President of Lithuania Algirdas Brazauskas following his death

The message reads, in part:

"Please accept my sincere condolences on this sad day. Your husband was an outstanding Lithuanian statesman, a wise politician and a wonderful man.

"For years, he was not only the leader of Lithuania but also a symbol of the country. He has always been respected in Russia for his professionalism, candour and decency. We have always valued his efforts to improve cooperation and promote neighbourly relations between our two countries."
