Finlandia Hall is a large congress hall in Helsinki. The building was designed by noted Finnish architect Alvar Aalto and was initially conceived as a concert hall. The project changed direction following the Organisation for Security and Co-operation in Europe summit in 1975. Construction was carried out in two stages, the main building was finished in 1971 and the congress wing was completed in 1975.
The venue has a main concert hall, named Finlandia Hall which seats 1,700, and a chamber music hall seating 340. The additional ring's two conference rooms seat 900. The venue's overall area is 3,500 square metres.
Finlandia Hall is one of Helsinki's most popular attractions visited by thousands of tourists annually. The building is noted for its original architecture and distinctive color scheme, with the exterior featuring marble and black granite. The windows overlook the bay coast and a quiet park in downtown Helsinki. Finlandia Hall's exterior combines the harmony of modern design with nature, a distinctive feature of the Finnish architecture.
