Born June 15, 1965 in Tselinograd, Kazakh Soviet Socialist Republic.

Education

1988: Graduated from Patrice Lumumba Peoples' Friendship University, Moscow.

1991: Graduated from Beijing University and Wuhan Language Institute.

1995: Graduated from Kazakhstan State Academy of Management with a degree in Law, International Relations and Economics.

1999: PhD in Economics; dissertation "The Problems of the Rise of Industry in Kazakhstan and Ways to Resolve Them (in Theory and Practice)."

Experience 

1991: Legal advisor to the USSR Trade Mission.

1992: Deputy director of Kazakhprigrantorg.

1992-1993: Senior expert at the Kazakhintorg branch in Urumqi, China.

1994-1995: Executive director of Kazakhstan's trading company in Hong Kong.

1995-1997: CEO, Commercial and Industrial Bank of Almaty.

1997-2000: CEO, National Savings Bank of Kazakhstan.

August 2000: Minister of Transport and Communications.

2001-2003: Deputy Prime Minister.

July 2003: Aide to the President.

January 18, 2006: Appointed Acting Deputy Prime Minister.

Since January 10, 2007: Prime Minister.

2004: Kazakhstan's Order of Kurmet.
