Wu Bangguo, Chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress, Member of the Politburo Standing Committee of the Communist Party of China Central Committee
Mr Wu was born in July of 1941 in Feidong County, the province of Anhui. He joined the Communist Party of China in April of 1964.
1967: graduated from Tsinghua University Department of Radio Electronics in Beijing.
1967-1978: employed as a worker and technician at Shanghai's No. 3 Electronic Tube Factory. He would later serve as deputy factory director and factory director.
1978-1979: deputy manager of Shanghai Electronic Elements Company.
He began his Communist Party career in 1981, concurrently serving as deputy secretary of the Party committee of the Shanghai Meters, Instruments and Telecommunications Bureau, member of the Standing Committee of the CPC Shanghai Municipal Committee, secretary of the CPC Municipal Committee in charge of science and technology, Deputy secretary of the CPC Shanghai Municipal Committee, and secretary of the CPC Shanghai Municipal Committee.
July 1998: appointed Secretary of the CPC Central Committee in charge of large enterprises work. He also served as head of the State Council's Committee on industrial safety, deputy head of the State Council's Committee on the construction of the Three Gorges (Sanxia) Dam, and deputy head of the State Council Leading Group on Informatisation.
March 2003: elected Chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress at the first session of the 10th National People's Congress, which serves as China's parliament.
March 2008: re-elected in his position by 11th National People's Congress.
He has visited Russia on several occasions.
