Born June 1, 1958 in Ulan Bator.

1980 - Graduated as a fiction translator from the Gorky Literary Institute in Moscow. Attended English Language courses at the Leeds and Cambridge Universities.

Speaks Russian and English.

1980 - 1990 - Editor, translator; the External Relations Department of the Mongolian Writers' Union, Head; the Mongolian Translators' Union, Vice President.

1990 - 1992 - The Mongolian State Committee for Culture and Art, First Deputy Chairman.

1992 - 1996 - The State Great Hural (Parliament) of Mongolia, member; Minister of Culture.

1996 - Elected Mongolian People's Revolutionary Party (MPRP), General Secretary.

1997 - 2000 - The State Great Hural, member; the MPRP parliamentary group, Head.

June, 1997 - Elected MPRP Chairman.

2000 - 2004 - The State Great Hural, member; Prime Minister of Mongolia.

2004 - Elected to the State Great Hural from the 65th District of Ulan Bator as an MPRP nominee.

August 13, 2004 - Elected State Great Hural Chairman.

May, 2005 - Wins the presidential election.

June 24, 2005 - - President of Mongolia.
