Tokai University, a private university in Tokyo, Japan, was established in 1942 by Dr Shigeyoshi Matsumae, former Director-General of Engineering in the Ministry of Communications.
Tokai University is one of the largest general education and research institutions in Japan. It comprises kindergartens, schools, colleges, universities and research institutes located throughout Japan and abroad.
The university cooperates with 60 higher educational institutions in 23 countries, including Russia's Lomonosov Moscow State University.
Its main campuses are Shonan, Yoyogi, Shimizu, Numazu and Isehara, comprising 13 schools and colleges.
Tuition at the university is focused on sciences and engineering. The university is cooperating with Nippon Airways in training civilian pilots.
The university has some 1,500 academic staff members and 27,500 students, including foreign students attending special courses of the Japanese language.
From 1994 to 2004, Tokai University held first place among Japanese universities in terms of registered patents.
