“Let’s Learn Judo with Vladimir Putin”

The book, "Let's Learn Judo with Vladimir Putin," was first published in 2000 in 10,000 copies (with a second edition in 2004). It is now being reviewed for a third edition.

The book's authors - Vladimir Putin, his regular judo partner, Vasily Shestakov, and Professor Alexei Levitsky - offer a stimulating story of one of the world's oldest martial arts, judo, complete with its history, philosophy and techniques as well as the theory and methods of training judokas (judo practitioners).

The book is both interesting and instructive as a tutorial.

It has been published in Korean, in the view that martial arts are very popular around the world and it was believed that the book would help South Koreans to learn more about Mr Putin, who was Russian President at that time. The Korean edition of the book was presented on August 26, 2007, during the first Korean Arts Festival in Moscow.

On October 7, 2008, a film based on the book was presented in St Petersburg. It was made during Mr Putin's master class with young judokas in St Petersburg in December 2005, jointly with co-authors Shestakov and Levitsky as well as Vyacheslav Chazov, head of the Moscow Committee for Physical Fitness and Sports, Anatoly Rakhlin, distinguished coach of judo and sambo who trained Putin for 11 years, as well as other renowned trainers and athletes.

In May 2009, Asahi Shimbun published the book in Japanese with the assistance of World and Olympic judo champion Yasuhiro Yamashita.
