Born on February 7, 1956 in the Tomsk Region.
Graduated from the Chisinau Financial and Economic College and later from Chisinau State University with a degree in finance and credit.
1974-1994: held different posts in the Financial Department of the Brichany District, Moldovan SSR.
1994-2005: worked her way through the ranks at the Finance Ministry of the Republic of Moldova, from deputy head of the Main Directorate to the Minister of Finance (2002-2005).
October 10, 2005: First Deputy Prime Minister of the Republic of Moldova.
March 31, 2008: Prime Minister of the Republic of Moldova.
A member of the Communist Party of Moldova. As a Communist candidate ran for Mayor of Chisinau (a low turnout disqualified the vote).
Married with two children.
