Vladimir Voronin - President of the Republic of Moldova

Born on May 25, 1945 in the village of Korzhova, Dubossary District, Moldovan SSR (Transdnestr).
Graduated from the All-Union Correspondence Institute of the Food Industry (Moscow), the Academy of Social Sciences attached to the Soviet Communist Party Central Committee and the Academy of the USSR Interior Ministry.
1966: director of the Dubossary bakery.
1971-1976: a Communist Party and government functionary.
1976: elected chairman of the City Executive Committee in Ungheni; and in 1979, chairman of the Ungheni District Executive Committee.
1983-1985: held posts in the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Moldova and later in the republic's Government.
1986-1989: First Secretary of the Bendery City Committee of the Communist Party of Moldova, deputy of the Supreme Council of the Moldovan SSR.
1989-1990: Minister of the Interior of the Republic.
December 1994: elected First Secretary of the Central Committee of the Party of Communists of the Republic of Moldova (PCRM).
March 22, 1998: elected a deputy to Parliament on the PCRM ticket. In April 1998, was elected member of the Standing Bureau of Parliament of the Republic of Moldova. Head of the parliamentary group of the PCRM.
April 4, 2001: elected President of the Republic of Moldova.
April 22, 2001: at the 4th Congress of the Party of Communists of the Republic of Moldova, elected Chairman of the Party (after the post of First Secretary of the PCRM was abolished).
April 7, 2005: re-elected President of the Republic of Moldova.
Married with two children and three grandchildren.
