1973: Graduated from the Yenakiyevo Mining College;

1980: Graduated from the Donetsk Polytechnic Institute, the Academy of Foreign Trade (the Department of International Law);

Experience:

Director of the Ordzhonikidzugol motor vehicle pool ; Director of a motor vehicle pool, deputy Director general, Director general of the Donbasstransremont motor vehicle repair company; Director general of the Ukruglpromtrans industrial transport association of the coal industry; Director general of the Donetskavtotrans territorial-production automobile transport association.

1996-1997: First deputy head of the Donetsk Regional Administration;

1999-2001: Head of the Donetsk Regional Council;

2001-2002: Head of Donetsk's Regional Administration;

2002-2005: Prime Minister of Ukraine;

Ran for president in the 2004 elections;

From January 2005 onward, the leader of the Party of Regions;

2006-2007: Prime Minister of Ukraine;

December 2007: Chairman of the Party of Regions in the Verkhovna Rada;

From 2010 to present: President of Ukraine; sworn in on February 25, 2010.

Married with two sons.
