

Born in the village of Vidova, near Cacak, Central Serbia, on August 28, 1930.
Upon graduating from school, he enrolled and completed his training at the Orthodox seminary in Prizren, then graduated from the University of Belgrade's Divinity School.
He then served in the army. Following his return, was appointed to a professorship at Prizren Seminary.
1959: Tonsured by His Holiness Patriarch German, taking the monastic name of Irinej, at Rakovica Monastery.
27 October, 1959: Ordained to the rank of hieromonk.
During his work at Prizren Seminary, he was sent to Athens to complete his post-graduate studies.
1969: Appointed head of the monastic school at Ostrog Monastery (Montenegro). Upon his return to Prizren, was appointed a rector of the Prizren Seminary.
1974: Consecrated by Patriarch German and elected Vicar Bishop of Moravica.
1975: Elected Bishop of Nis
22 January, 2010: Elected the 45th Patriarch of the Serbian Orthodox Church.
