Prime Minister Vladimir Putin meets with Serbian President Boris Tadić in Belgrade

Prime Minister Vladimir Putin said at the meeting that cooperation between the two countries is expanding, and that there are good prospects for the future, while Serbian President Boris Tadić remarked on the two nations’ “many mutual interests.”

Transcript of the beginning of the meeting:

Boris Tadić (as translated): Welcome to Belgrade, Mr Prime Minister! Welcome to Serbia! As you know, our country is a true friend of Russia, and of the Russian people. We share a historical and spiritual connection. Our languages and even our flags are similar.

We must build relations for the future, as we have many mutual interests. And thanks to your efforts, Mr Putin, we will sign a strategic partnership agreement in a couple of months, which will dot the i's in our bilateral relationship. Again, welcome to Belgrade!

Vladimir Putin: Thank you for the invitation, Mr President. I am glad to have this chance to meet with you and discuss all the aspects of our cooperation. We have a lot to discuss because our cooperation is expanding. We are achieving results in many areas, and there are good prospects for the future, which is the most important thing.

I'm also happy to be in Belgrade. My last visit was ten years ago, and I'm eager to see what the city looks like now. Thank you.
