The Maersk Niamey is an ice-resistant vessel, with a length of 210.1 metres, a width of 30.23 metres, a speed of 22.5 knots, a nominal capacity of 2,592 20-foot containers and facilities for 600 refrigerated containers.
The ship is designed to transport StarKea containers specially made to carry bananas over long distances. These containers preserve their cargo's quality for 45 days, which enables the product to be shipped to remote markets and eliminates the need to use special Banavac vacuum bags, thereby reducing costs.
