Education
1992: Graduated in law from Copenhagen University.
1985: Joined the youth branch of the centre-right Venstre (Liberal Party), and served as chairman from 1986 to 1990.
Political Career
1994-1998, after 2001: Served as a member of the Danish Folketinget (national parliament).
1998: Named vice chairman of Venstre.
1998-2001: Served as chairman of the municipality of Frederiksborg.
2001-2007: Served as Interior and Health Minister.
Rasmussen played an important role in carrying out major reforms of the public sector in Denmark, including tax and public health reforms. Rasmussen was also the main architect of Danish municipal reforms.
2007-2009: Served as Finance Minister.
April 5, 2009: Appointed Prime Minister of Denmark, after Anders Fogh Rasmussen's resignation in connection with his appointment as Secretary General of NATO.

Married, with three children.
Author of several non-fiction books published in the late 1990s, including Lokkeland, Guide to Unification and If I Grow Old.
