

Murtaza Rakhimov is the President of the Republic of Bashkortostan. Born on February 7, 1934, in the village of Tavakanovo, Kugarchinsky District, he graduated from the Ufa Oil Technical School in 1956 to work as an operator at the Ufa Oil Refinery. In 1964, Murtaza Rakhimov graduated from the Ufa Oil Institute with a degree in Oil and Gas Technology.
From 1960 to 1976: worked at the Ufa Oil Refinery, holding positions of processing unit supervisor, deputy shop superintendent, deputy chief of production, deputy chief engineer for pre-commissioning;
1976 to 1978: deputy chief engineer-chief chemical specialist;
1978 to 1986: chief engineer;
1986 to 1990: director.
From 1990 to 1993: Chairman of the Supreme Council of the Republic of Bashkortostan.
On December 12, 1993, Murtaza Rakhimov was elected the first President of the Republic. He was re-elected on June 4, 1998, and entered a third term on December 21, 2003.
On October 10, 2006, following a suggestion by Russian President Vladimir Putin, the parliament of Bashkortostan, the Kurultai, granted Murtaza Rakhimov presidential authority.
Murtaza Rakhimov is a member of the working group for drafting proposals on delineation of authority and jurisdiction between the federal, regional and municipal authorities at the State Council of the Russian Federation. He also chairs the Presidential Council and Security Council of the Republic of Bashkortostan.
