St Tatiana’s cathedral of the intercession

Construction on St Tatiana's Cathedral began in 2001 after Russian Orthodox Patriarch Alexy II blessed the founding stone.

In 2006, the church was granted status as a cathedral by decree of Alexy II. On September 17, 2006, Metropolitan Varnava of Cheboksary and Chuvashia consecrated the upper level of the cathedral in honor of the Intercession of the Virgin Mary.

St Tatiana's Cathedral of the Intercession in Cheboksary is a repository of holy relics. On September 16, 2006, the relics of St Innocent of Irkutsk and an icon of St Tatiana containing a holy relic of her were transferred from the Presentation of Mary Church to St Tatiana's Cathedral of the Intercession.

The Cathedral, located in Cheboksary's Moskovsky District, is close to several higher and vocational educational institutions that are home to many students. As St Tatiana is the patron saint of students, St Tatiana's Cathedral of Intercession has become a site of pilgrimage for young people.

Archpriest Nikolai Ivanov, Secretary of the Cheboksary and Chuvash Eparchy, is the rector of the Cathedral.
