Mr Putin's opening address:

Good afternoon, ladies and gentlemen.

I congratulate you upon the opening of this new sports centre-a beautiful building with high-tech equipment for family relaxation and junior athletes' training.

Even if no world records are set here, every person who uses this ice rink will improve his or her health and gain an athlete's stamina and perseverance.

I thank all who took part in the design and construction of this fine skating rink. The New Generation foundation has built several dozen sports facilities in every part of Russia from the Far East to the western border.

I wish you every success, including athletic achievements and a fighting spirit.
