Nizhnekamskneftekhim is a rapidly developing high-tech petrochemical company.
Nizhnekamskneftekhim includes 10 main production units; five centres (including a research and technology centre and a design centre), as well as a rail transport department, an ethylene pipeline department and support department.
The production units are divided as follows:
* divinyl and hydrocarbon
* propyl carbinol
* synthetic rubber
* isoprene-monomer
* ethylene
* ethylene oxide
* styrene and polyester rubber
* oligomer
* polystyrene plastics
* polyolefin
* research and technology centre
* design centre
There are more than 100 items in the product range. The basic product slate consists of:
- general-purpose and special-purpose synthetic rubbers
- plastics: polystyrene, polypropylene and polyethylene
- monomers used in the production of rubbers and plastics
- other petrochemical products (ethylene oxide, propylene oxide, alpha olefins, surfactants, etc.).
Today the company is the sole or dominant manufacturer of products including: polypropylene, polyethylene, simple polyester plastics, ethylene glycols, styrene, polystyrene, and a wide range of synthetic rubbers.
In its 41 years of production, the company has grown to become the largest petrochemical production facility in Eastern Europe. The joint-stock company's products are exported to over 50 countries in Europe, the Americas and Southeast Asia. Exports account for 53% of the total production volume.
Year on year the company improves its operations, both technologically and in economic terms. In 2008, Nizhnekamskneftekhim produced over 70 billion roubles worth of commercial output. This is more than 106.4% than the previous year. Sales revenue reached 70.9 billion roubles, 7.8 billion roubles more than obligations incurred. Earned profit was 7.4 billion roubles.
Results from the first nine months of 2009 indicate Nizhnekamskneftekhim increased on the previous year's production levels of butyl and halobutyl rubbers by 7.6% (including 44% more halobutyl), with 11% more polystyrol, 9% more propylene and almost 47% more methyl tertiary butyl ether (MTBE). Outputs of ethylene, propylene, divinyl and ethylene oxide produced with imported technology was at 2008 levels.
In January-September 2009, Nizhnekamskneftekhim's production was worth a total of 40 billion roubles, 95% of the total output for the same period, the previous year. Total output is expected to reach 100% of 2008 by the end 2009.
As of October 1, the company's staff totalled 17,379.
Nizhnekamskneftekhim is consistently working to further improve quality and lower cost by increasing its production capacity, building new installations and focusing production on according to demand.
In 2003, the company started producing plastics. The first stage of polystyrene production was launched, producing 50,000 tonnes of polystyrene per year. Two years later, the company began making general-purpose polystyrene granules in a second stage with the same productivity, and, the third polystyrene stage was launched in 2008.
In addition to impact-resistant, all-purpose polystyrene, Nizhnekamskneftekhim produces polypropylenes (production started in 2006, production capacity is 180,000 tonnes per year), and polyethylene, production of which was commissioned in early 2009, with a production capacity of 230,000 tonnes a year.
Since the start of production of commercial-grade polybutadiene rubber using a lithium catalyst (SKD-L) in 2008, Nizhnekamskneftekhim can offer its clients a comprehensive package of seven types of rubber, including those that are used in making "green" tires and custom (one-of-a-kind) plastics.
Every year the quality of Nizhnekamskneftekhim rubbers and plastics gets high ratings at international trade shows featuring the chemical industry, rubbers, general mechanical rubber goods and plastics.
Nizhnekamskneftekhim's long-term development programme stipulates the continued intensive development of rubber and petrochemical production. The construction of a pyrolysis kiln is currently being completed as part of a programme to increase annual ethylene output to 600,000 tonnes. The construction of another installation is planned, it will produce the monomer ethylene, bringing total ethylene output to 1.6 million tonnes per year.
The company's environmental record is recognised as meeting international standards.
Nizhnekamskneftekhim won the National Best Company 2006 Award and the National Technological Award in 2007 in the "High-Tech Star" Category.
