Born in 1952 in the village of Krasnoye, Khvastovichi District, Kaluga Region, into a family of farmers.
Education
1974: Graduated from the Moscow Goryachkin Institute of Agricultural Engineering.
Has PhD in Economics.
Experience
After graduation: Managed a maintenance shop at the Khvastovichsky state farm in the Kvastovichi District, Kaluga Region.
Chief engineer at the Shakhovsky state farm in the Mosalsk District.
1978: Appointed head of the Gruzdovsky state farm.
1985: Appointed head of the district agriculture directorate. Several
months later elected First Secretary of the CPSU Mosalsk District
Committee, employed there for six years.
1991: Appointed executive director of an Obninsk construction company.
Took an active part in establishing Ros-San-Tim company, a
Russian-Hungarian company which specialises in the latest construction
technology.
Political Experience
November 1996: Elected Deputy Governor of the Kaluga Region.
November 12, 2000: Won the election for Governor of the Kaluga Region with 56.72% of the vote.
March 14, 2004: Re-elected Governor of the Kaluga Region with 66.86% of the vote.
July 22, 2005: Vladimir Putin introduced Mr Artamonov to the region's Legislative Assembly as a candidate for Governor.
July 26, 2005: Mr Artamonov was appointed Governor for a new five-year term.
Member of the Peter the Great Academy of Sciences and Arts.
Married with a son and daughter, has four grandchildren (two girls and two boys).
