Prime Minister Vladimir Putin visited a fitness centre in Vladimir, and presented awards to the winners of the Merry Start school competition

Vladimir Putin's address:

Good afternoon,

I have seen many different starts, but I'm particularly pleased to attend this competition. It is a special pleasure because it is enthused with unparalleled sincerity and enthusiasm.

I sincerely congratulate the winners because this was a team competition. Relying on your team and the support of your mates is very important and means a lot.

But I would also like to address those who have not won the first place, or any place at all, for that matter. You should not feel disappointed or upset. You should take it as priceless experience that will help you win in the future.

I congratulate all of you, and wish you every success.

I would also like to express the hope that future winners of major national and international championships are among the audience here today. I'm confident about this.

Needless to say, not everyone will become an outstanding athlete and an idol of millions of fans in this country and abroad. But I'm convinced that all those who go in for sports will gain something invaluable because they will be building up their health and personality, and that is very important. That is the main thing.

I would like to once again congratulate all the participants in the competition, and wish you every success.
