Alexei Chernyshev Governor, Chairman of the Government of the Orenburg Region

Born in 1939 in the village of Rybkino, Novosergiyevsky District, Orenburg Region.
Graduated from the Chkalov Technical School of Agricultural Mechanisation and Electrification, followed by the Orenburg Agricultural Institute with a degree in agricultural mechanisation, and the Academy of Social Sciences of the CPSU Central Committee.
Began his working career in 1962 as the head of a state farm's repair shop, then worked as a chief mechanical engineer, and head of the regional agricultural production office, worked as the first secretary of the Communist Party's regional committee, headed the Agriculture Department of the Orenburg Regional Executive Committee, was appointed secretary and the second secretary of the CPSU Orenburg Regional Committee.
1991-1993: member of the Supreme Council of the Russian Federation, chairman of the Committee for Village Social Development, Agrarian Issues and Food, was appointed First Deputy Agriculture Minister and was a deputy of the State Duma of the first and second convocations for six years, heading the Duma Agrarian Committee.
December 1999: elected Governor of the Orenburg Region.
December 2003: re-elected Governor.
June 2005: elected Governor for a 5-year term as advised by President Vladimir Putin.
Holds the Order for Services to the Fatherland 4th Class, two Orders of the Red Banner of Labour, the Order of Merit, and several other medals.
Married with a daughter.
