The Mir tall ship, built in 1987 in Poland, is owned by the Admiral Makarov State Maritime Academy.
Since 1987, the Mir has travelled over 200,000 nautical miles. Over 1,000 cadets from the State Maritime Academy and other maritime schools have completed three-month advanced training on board the ship.
The Mir has been involved in numerous regattas and crew-training missions, calling at such international ports as Helsinki, Copenhagen, Hamburg, Rostock, Bremerhaven, Amsterdam, London, Liverpool, Lisbon, Barcelona, Naples, La Valetta (Malta), Istanbul, New York City and others. City mayors, other senior officials, Russian consuls and ambassadors visit the Mir virtually at every port of call.
From April to October, the Mir operates in the Baltic and North Seas, visiting 15 to 20 ports each season. Cadets from the State Maritime Academy and other maritime schools receive training aboard the ship.
As a rule, the Mir calls at St Petersburg for 10-12 days during City Day celebrations.
Yury Galkin is the captain of the Mir.
