The Rostselmash Harvester Plant is a member of the Novoye Sodruzhestvo Industrial Union. Together with its subsidiaries, it employs a total of 10,000 workers. Its general director is Valery Maltsev.
The company produces 17% of global and 65% of Russian agricultural equipment. In the 2007-2008 farming year Rostselmash manufactured and delivered 6,300 harvesting units to its clients in Russia and abroad or 20% more than the previous year. Company turnover has risen by 38.8% to reach over 20 billion roubles.
Rostselmash's birthday is considered to be July 21, 1929 when it produced its first rural equipment: carts, self-dump rakes, tractor ploughs and seeders. A year later the plant manufactured the country's first harvester called Kolkhoz. In May 1932, the first trainload of harvesters was sent to the country's farms. Since its establishment, Rostselmash has delivered over 2.6 million farm machines to its clients in other countries.
The company produces four harvester models: TORUM, ACROS, VECTOR and NIVA, as well as the DON 680M fodder harvester and, since 2008, VERSATILE tractors, towed and mounted fodder harvesting equipment, and equipment for grain storing and processing. Pre-sale preparation, sales and service are done by a dealership network, one of the largest in Europe and Asia, operating 200 service branches. Over the past five years, Rostselmash harvesters have been exported to 23 countries.
In the autumn of 2007, Rostselmash purchased a stake in a Canadian manufacturer of agricultural equipment, Buhler Industries Inc. The decision was motivated by the production potential of the Canadian plant, capable of turning out tractors with up to 535 hp.
In 2008, an up-to-date inventory of spare parts for quick availability and delivery was established at Rostselmash, raising after-sale servicing to a new level.
New Harvester Plant
Production of the TORUM model rotary combine harvester was launched at Rostselmash's new assembly plant in March 2009.
The TORUM combine harvester is a milestone in the development of the company. Over two dozen engineering innovations in the TORUM's design are patented. The harvester was developed under Rostselmash's new corporate strategy, which emphasises economic efficiency in equipment design. The TORUM's harvesting capacity does not have an upper limit and is capable of harvesting from 1,500 to 2,000 hectares per season.
The harvester's design is based on the conceptually new Advanced Rotor System (ARS). It is distinguished from current technology by its crop feed elevator, a continuously variable ratio drive rotor, and a revolving deck. This design allows for a 360-degree threshing, which almost completely precludes separator clogging on the most difficult soils, and significantly increases the harvester's productivity. The design won the silver award at an international innovations competition.
Besides full gear and on-track models, the plant also manufactures harvesters with compressed air pumps, centralised lubrication systems, and fuel monitoring systems. The TORUM is designed for heavy duty operation using modern agricultural technology in high-yielding fields.
In April 2009, the new assembly plant launched the production of a power unit used for mowing and swath laying of spiked cereals, grain legumes, grits, and feeding crops. The device will be in demand particularly in the low-yielding fields of central Russia, the Altai region, and Kazakhstan, where two-phase grain harvesting is practiced.
Rostselmash engineers have designed the device with the newly developed high-capacity, 9-metre conveyor header ZHKHT9-18, which provides right-sided, left-sided, and double-sided swath-laying.
Production of a conceptually new fodder combine harvester will be launched in October 2009. The higher capacity of this harvester is to the result of a more powerful engine. The base model has a 400 horsepower engine with an upgrade potential to 500 horsepower. To increase the harvesting capacity, engineers redesigned the feed and cutter units. A high production rate is achieved through automated operation adjustments and simplified access for service.
In April 2009, Rostselmash launched the production of VERSATILE tractors at the company's own facilities. Today, the VERSATILE tractor portfolio includes the following series:
HHT Series 4WD (435-535 hp)
These general-purpose tractors are used for ploughing, cultivating, and sowing. Thanks to their high horsepower, these tractors can be effectively used in mini-till and no-till energy saving modes using wide-coverage machines. This model features a two-seat cab, a strong frame, and high capacity hydraulics.
2000 Series 4WD (335-375 hp)
This is the company's basic model. The tractors are used for ploughing, cultivating, and sowing. Thanks to their high power capability, these tractors can be effectively used in mini-till and no-till energy saving modes.
Genesis II (196-278 hp)
These are general-purpose tractors with a classic configuration. They are used for ploughing, cultivating, and sowing. With the appropriate tires they can be used for inter-tillage. These tractors are more multi-functional, as they can be used for field work, transportation, and loading.
