The Vyselki District was established by order of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the RSFSR on December 30, 1966.

The district's capital, Vyselki, was founded in 1892.

The district borders the Pavlovskaya District to the north, the Ust-Labinsk District to the south, Tbilisskaya and Tikhoretsk districts to the east and Briukovetskaya and Korenovsk districts to the west.

The capital is the Cossack town Vyselki, which is linked by a highway to the regional centre Krasnodar (90 km away), the Black Sea ports Novorossiisk (240 km away) and Tuapse (300 km away), as well as to the town of Yeisk on the Azov Sea (230 km away), and the administrative centre of the Rostov Region, Rostov on Don (200 km away). It has a population of 60,300.

The total area of the Vyselki District is 173,100 hectares, which includes:

- 152,800 hectares of agricultural land (88.3%)

- 1,800 hectares of industrial, energy, transport, communications and radio broadcasting areas (1.0%)

- 6,000 hectares of aquatic areas (3.5%)

- 600 hectares of reserved land (0.3%)

- 12,000 hectares of towns and villages within existing borders (6.8%)

The investment strategy's implementation and the 12% expected population growth (7,400 people) due to natural growth and migration make it necessary to expand residential areas by 4,300 hectares at the expense of agricultural land, as described in the Territory's planning documents.

On May 1, 2009 there were 457 officially registered unemployed people (with the unemployment level being 1.3%). In addition employers in the region have given public notice of 566 vacancies, principally in specialised labour. The economy is comprised of agriculture (47%), the food industry (27%), the consumer market (15%), construction (7%) and other sectors (3%).

There is an annual growth in the volume of investment into the district's economy. In 2008 this figure was more than 3 billion roubles, which is a quarter more than in 2007. Agrokomplex and Imeni Ilyicha agricultural company play a significant role in this; they are the two largest agricultural businesses in the Krasnodar Territory, which are situated in this district, and which invest significant sums of their own and borrowed resources in developing production, purchasing new technology and high-tech equipment. In 2007 they invested a total of 900 million roubles, in 2008 it was 1.7 billion roubles.
