Metachem

Metachem CJSC was established in January 2004 after the reorganisation of the Volkhov Aluminium Plant (VAZ). The plant was divided into two enterprises producing aluminium and chemical products, respectively. The new chemical company now employs about 2,500 workers and is controlled by the SevZapProm managing company (Director-General Alexander Utevsky).

VAZ is a unique enterprise with a rich history. Russia's first industrial aluminium and aluminium oxide were produced here. In the late 1950s-1960s, the plant started manufacturing chemical products and opened a shop producing sulphuric acid in 1962. In 1964, the company started manufacturing double superphosphate, and sodium triphosphate in 1994. In 1995, the factory's oldest shop (dating from September 1932), which produced aluminium oxide, was converted into an inorganic fertiliser facility.

Today, Metachem consists of several chemical complexes with a common technological cycle. The company's facilities produce:

The facilities also include the following satellite shops: mechanical repairs, railway, automotive and construction shops.

The Metachem company is most widely known as a producer of sulphuric acid and sodium triphosphate. The company's facilities are constantly being renovated and updated. In October 2005, the vitriolic shop was thoroughly renovated. Today, the company is one of Russia's best equipped and environmentally safest enterprises.

The plant is one of Russia's largest producers of sodium triphosphate. The facilities producing polyphosphate and fertilisers were modernised and now have a production capacity of up to 10 tonnes per month. Future plans envisage increasing sodium triphosphate production to 12 tonnes per month.

In 2006, after a thorough renovation, the cement plant began operations. Three cement mills were installed and put into operation.

The company's oldest shop, which produced Russia's first aluminium oxide, now produces mineral fertilisers. Potassium sulphate, the chloride-free fertiliser manufactured by Metachem, is popular among its foreign partners.
