The Polosukhinskaya coal mine, located on the premises of the former Yubileynaya mine, began operating in 1985.
The projected annual coal output of 2 million tonnes was reached in 1987, with the mine operating steadily over the next six years. Beginning in 1993, the mine saw a rapid decrease in coal production, as the country's industrial sector was in a crisis.
In 1997, thanks to measures taken by the plant management, annual production went up to 2,840,000 tonnes. Since 2000, this figure has remained steady at 3 million tonnes a year.
Within the mine field, there are 11 coal beds of various heights, three of which are currently being developed.
To enhance safety standards of mining works, gas-operated mine ventilation is provided by a mixing chamber and gas suction plants installed on the surface. Mobile vacuum pumps are used to decontaminate the mined-out space.
Adequate excavation ventilation is ensured through the installation of high-performance fan systems.
The coal from the stope is brought to the surface by modern conveyer belts.
Personnel and materiel are carried to the work area by German-made DZ-2000 3+3 SHARF suspended and floor diesel locomotives, which significantly decreased the labour intensity and improved delivery security.
A modern boiling house with a capacity of 20 Gcal and an effective cleanup system was built to provide heating to the mine. Each boiler is fitted with a supplementary firing system and a cyclone. The enclosed coal storage prevents the coal dust from getting outside.
The environmentally friendly electric boiler house provides hot water to homes and heating for the administration, as well as living quarters and repair bays.
Currently, the enterprise employs 1,420 people, including 240 engineering personnel.
Bituminous and parabituminous coal is mined here.
In 2008, the mine output reached 3,010,427 tonnes, with the mine roadway amounting to 20,069 metres.
