Construction of the first section of the highway between Omsk and Novosibirsk on the stretch of land from the village of Prokudskoye to the village of Sokur with a bridge over the Ob near Krasny Yar

The federal highway authority Sibir has commissioned the building and reconstruction of federal highways in the Western Siberian Region.

The largest road construction project is the northern bypass near Novosibirsk, the first section of the Omsk-Novosibirsk highway will be built on the stretch of land from the village of Prokudskoye to the settlement of Sokur with a bridge across the Ob near Krasny Yar.
The traffic on the federal M-51 and M-53 Baikal highways on the approaches to Novosibirsk reaches to more than 10,000 vehicles.

Building the northern bypass would ease traffic at the exit from the city, and it would ensure free passage along the West-East Transport Corridor.

Construction of the northern bypass began in 1999. It was intended to be 76.5 km long, of which 26 km stretch was to be of first-category quality.

A revision of the project in 2002 approved some specifications: the first section would be 50.03 km long, there would be six transport interchanges, seven overpasses and seven bridges, including one across the Ob. Between 2000 and 2004, the federal budget allocated 2.2 billion roubles for the project. Only two stretches of the highway with a total length of 9.7 km were put into operation during that period.

Federal funding of the project has been growing steadily since 2005, which made a difference to the progress of the project.

From 2000 to 2007, six startup complexes of the Northern Bypass were launched.

Under the 2008 plan, 15 km of second-category highway with cement and concrete surfaces, including 1,983.84 metres of bridges and overpasses, are to be made operational.

In accordance with the work plan, startup complexes No.5, 7 and 8 have been put into operation.

In October 2008, startup complex No.6 with a length of 4.25 km and two bridges with a total length of 1132.26 m are to be opened. The startup complex includes the bridge over the Ob which is a bridge that was made outside standard categories. The total length of the bridge is 923.65 meters. As of today, eight startup complexes (45.78 km long) out of the nine constituting the first stage of the project have been put into operation.

The section of the bridge across the Ob and the creek (more than 2 km) will be illuminated. In the water protection zone of the river Ob, rainwater will be drained from the road surface and delivered to purification plants.

Simultaneously, preparations are underway for building the second 26.5 km stretch of the Northern Bypass. That part of the bypass may be completed in 2010 or 2011.
