The foundry and rolling complex

In 2005 the United Metallurgical Company (OMK) started building the foundry and rolling complex (LPK) in the Vyksa District, Nizhny Novgorod Region, 5 km from the Vyksa Metallurgical Plant.

The project is being built in the shortest possible time with the use of unique technologies. The introduction of the first LPK unit will fully meet the need of the pipe-welding division at the Vyksa Metallurgical and the Almetyevsky Pipeline plants for high-quality hot rolled steel for the production of small- and medium-diameter piping up to international standards. LPK is designed with an eye to possible production of high-quality rolled steel for the automobile industry, shipbuilding and for building rolling stock for RZD.

The capacity of the first LPK unit will be 1.5 million metric tons a year. An increase of capacity to 3 million metric tons and broadening of the range of products are envisaged. The first LPK unit will cost $1.2 billion, the second unit will cost $600 million.

LPK is to come into operation in the third quarter of 2008. The general contractor is the Turkish building company GAMA Endustri. The main supplier of technological equipment is the Italian company Danieli&C. Dozens of Russian and foreign enterprises are also involved in the project.

The launching of LPK will create more than 1,000 new jobs. When the plant reaches its design capacity it will contribute 4.5-4.6 billion roubles to the gross regional project every year.
