Admiralteiskie verfi

The Federal State Unitary Enterprise Admiralteiskie Verfi was founded in St Petersburg by Peter the Great on the November 5, 1704 as the main shipyards in Russia. This is the place where the traditions of Russian shipbuilding, including the progressive sailing fleet, modern submarines and legendary armoured cruisers - from the Peter the Great to the world-known Aurora - were born.

In the last century the Admiralteiskie Verfi took part in building the first nuclear-powered ice-breaker Lenin, tracking and space control ships, and unique ships for the national economy.

The Admiralteiskie Verfi also took part in producing the Russian submarine fleet - 275 non-nuclear submarines and 35 nuclear ones, as well as 75 deep-water submarines, including nuclear-powered ones. Today the company specializes in building 4th generation non-nuclear submarines for the Russian Navy.

Cargo shipbuilding is becoming the company's main line of development. The enterprise specializes in building product-carrying tankers from 20,000 to 50,000 tons for Russian companies. Several tankers of 28,400 tons and five Astrakhan ice strengthened class tankers of 20,000 tons were built. In August 2008 under a contract with Sovkomflot the enterprise will finish the building of eight tankers of 47,000 tons. At the present time the enterprise is building two project No.70046 Arctic tankers of 70,000 tons for Sovkomflot.

An absolutely new type of the Russian ice-strengthened class tanker of 70,000 tons was laid down last year. This tanker will have an Azipod motor, allowing it to move its bow or stern in different water conditions (in clear water or in ice). Such tankers may be used for the development of the Prirazlomnoe oilfield in the Arctic.

A distinctive feature of tankers of this class is the usage of the so-called double-action technology. In icy water the tanker moves stern first, cracking the ice like an ice-breaker.

The tanker is built in full accordance with the requirements of Lloyd's Shipping Register and the Russian Shipping Register. It will be equipped with two steering columns of 8.5 megawatts each, a dynamic positioning system, a helipad and a bow goods receiving system.

The tanker's main characteristics:
Length - 260 metres
Width - 34 metres
Draught - 13.6 metres
Displacement weight - 70,000 tons
Speed in open water - 16.0 knots
Speed by stern first in ice 1.2 metres thick - 3 knots
Total power of reactors - 25 megawatts
Motor - 2 Azipod steering columns
Crew capacity - 35 people

In accordance with the shipbuilding contract the tanker will be turned over to the client in 2009.

The tanker is set on the shipyards' South stocks, the length of which is 259 metres, and width - 35 metres.

In November, 2007 the Admiralteiskie Verfi and Sovkomflot signed an agreement on building gas-carrying ships, which are a new type of vessels for the enterprise. In accordance with the agreement the enterprise will be preparing for this production in 2009-2010.

In 2007 the total value of the products supplied, works completed, and services rendered by the Admiralteiskie Verfi amounted to 9.1 billion roubles, with 441.1 million roubles of that being pure profit.

The enterprise employs some 6,500 people.
