Born November 16, 1948 in the village of Vlasovo-Dvorino, Palkinsky District, Kostroma Region.
Education
1971: Graduated from the Novosibirsk Agricultural Institute.
Experience
1971–1987: Senior, then chief agronomist at the Kornilovsky State Farm, Novosibirsk Region; director of the Rodina state farm, Tomsk Region; chairman of the production association for agro-chemical services for the agriculture Selkhozkhimia; deputy chairman of the Tomsk Regional Agro-Industrial Complex.
1987–1990: First Secretary of the CPSU Pervomaisky District Committee, Tomsk Region.
1990 (March): Elected a member of the Soviet of the People's Deputies of the Tomsk Region.
1990–1991: Chairman of the Soviet of the People's Deputies of the Tomsk Region.
1991–Present: Governor of the Tomsk Region.
2000-2004: Member of the Political Council of the Yedinstvo (Unity) movement.
2004–Present: Member of the United Russia party.
Holds numerous state awards. Is interested in the folk art, landscape art, fiction and memoir literature. Head of several charity and educational foundations.
Married, with two children.
