Magadan Region Governor from February 2003

Born: January 1, 1952, in Severo-Zadonsk, Tula Region.

Graduated from the Evening Department of the Novomoskovsk Department of the Moscow D. Mendeleev Institute of Chemical Technology (MCTI), automation engineer.

1970–1972: Served in the Soviet Armed Forces: senior sergeant, radiotelegraph operator.

1972–1978: condenser plant fitter, senior overseer electrician, head of shift at Chukotskaya Central Heating and Power Plant.

From 1978: Magadan Region resident.

1982–1986: Worked in various Magadan Region sections of the Communist Party of the Soviet Union (CPSU).

1991–1996: Head of a Magadan subsidiary of state enterprise Far Eastern Information Centre Inform VES.

From 1996: Worked in Magadan Region administration as governor aide, chief governor advisor, chief of staff of administration.

1999–2000: Russian President's Envoy to the Magadan Region

2000 (November) Magadan Region Deputy Governor, Magadan Region First Deputy Governor, simultaneously chief of staff of regional administration. Following the death of Governor Valentin Tsvetkov, Acting Magadan Region Governor.

2003 (February 16): Magadan Region Governor.

From September 2005 to March 2006: Member of Presidium of the State Council of the Russian Federation.

2008: Approved as Magadan Region Governor for the second term.

Member of United Russia regional political council. PhD in Economics. Awarded the Order of Honour.

Has two daughters.
