The Udomlya District is located in the north of the Tver Region and covers 246,494 hectares. Udomlya is 190 kilometres from Tver (225 kilometres by rail,) 450 kilometres from St. Petersburg and 350 kilometres from Moscow.

The district has 259 municipalities making up 12 rural settlements and one urban one. The district's administrative centre is the town of Udomlya. The district's population is over 40,000; Udomlya has 31,000 residents.

Forest covers 58% of the district, farm land covers 28%, lakes 3% and swamps 4%. The district has peat deposits as well as sand, gravel and clay deposits meeting local demand.

A Rosenergoatom subsidiary, Kalinin Nuclear Power Station is very important to the district's economy. Its proportion of total industrial production in the district is 99%.

The timber processing industry is well developed in the district. In January-September 2011, the district's industry distributed goods valued at 18 billion roubles. Total investment in the district economy was 5.13 billion roubles in the nine months of 2011.

The district has 13 agricultural enterprises, four fishery co-ops and 35 independent farms. The district specialises in dual-purpose cattle breeding. EcoRos is creating a multifunctional farm holding.
