Pskov, located at the confluence of the Velikaya and Pskova Rivers contains a population of 200,000.
Pskov boasts a rich history, ranks among Russia's spiritual centres, and is a veritable open-air museum. The Pskov School of Architecture and Icon Painting is world famous . About 40 monument ensembles of ancient Russian Orthodox Christian architecture are located in Pskov, including: the tenth century Dovmont City, the Pskov Kremlin/Krom with the Troitsky (Trinity) Cathedral dating back to the late 11th – early 12th centuries, the Church of Saints Cosmas and Damian from Thunder Mountain, the Church of Peter and Paul from the Buoy dating back to the late 14th century, the Church of the Intercession and Nativity of the Mother of God dating back to the late 14th century and others.
The main industries are metal-working, engineering, wood-working sectors, production of building materials, and the light and food industries.

- the Pskov Electrical Engineering Plant PLC designing and manufacturing DC electric motors, small motors, and consumer goods;
- the Pskov Automatic Telephone Exchange Plant PLC manufacturing corporate and emergency telephone networks and surge-resistant power-supply sources;
- the KhimLegMash Pskov Ltd. manufacturing equipment for production of chemical fibers, flax processing, dyeing and finishing of textiles plants, and the food-industry and trade companies;
- the Pskov Polymer Ltd. manufacturing rubber footwear;
- the United Bakers Pskov PLC manufacturing snacks and confectioneries.
On December 5, 2009, President Dmitry Medvedev signed a decree conferring the title of Military Glory City on Pskov.
The Latvian Consulate, the Office of the St Petersburg-based Estonian Consulate General, and a Russian Foreign Ministry mission are located in Pskov.
