Madhav Kumar Nepal, Prime Minister of the Federal Democratic Republic of Nepal

Born March 8, 1953 in Gaur village, Rautahat District in southern Nepal.
Education
1973: Graduated in Commerce from Tribhuvan University.
Experience
1969: Joined the Communist Party of Nepal.
He was an outspoken critic of the non-partisan panchayat local-government system and active in a movement to restore multi-partisan democracy in Nepal.
1976: Charged with high treason and imprisoned.
After his release in 1978, he co-founded the Communist Party of Nepal (Unified Marxist-Leninist) and became a member of its Politburo.
1991: Elected to the House of Representatives on the Communist Party of Nepal (Marxist-Leninist) ticket during the first democratic national elections.
1993: Elected Member of the Politburo of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Nepal (Unified Marxist-Leninist) which was established after a merger of several Communist parties. He headed the party's international-affairs department and was subsequently elected the party's General Secretary.
1994-1995: Deputy Prime Minister.
1999: Headed a group of members of parliament from the Communist Party of Nepal (Unified Marxist-Leninist).
2008 (April): Resigned as General Secretary of the Communist Party of Nepal (Unified Marxist-Leninist) after an election defeat and was reinstated as head of the party's international affairs department.
He then joined the Constituent Assembly of the Federal Democratic Republic of Nepal together with government appointed members of parliament.
2008 (December): Elected Chairman of the Constitutional Committee of the Constituent Assembly.
2009 (May 23): Elected by the Constituent Assembly to the post of Prime Minister of the Federal Democratic Republic of Nepal.
2010 (June 30): Resigned as Prime Minister and still serves as Acting Prime Minister pending the election of his successor.

Has authored a number of publications on the national people's popular movement.
