Project for combined railway and motorway between Adler and Alpika-Service Alpine and recreation resort

The project objective is to transport spectators and contenders by rail (8,500 passengers per hour) and by road (11,500 passengers per hour) to Krasnaya Polyana mountain stadiums and Olympic Park ice arenas in the Imereti Lowland.

These routes have a total length of 124.5 km, comprising 6 tunnel complexes (14 tunnels), 36 railway bridges and 31 motorway bridges.

The project has a tight, strictly prescribed, schedule of five years and will require the concentration of all available material, technical and financial resources to allow all sections to be worked on simultaneously.

Currently, work is proceeding on all six tunnel complexes. Construction has been completed on service and escape galleries at complexes No.1 and No.5, and at railway tunnel No.2, with work in the other tunnels running to schedule.

In August 2010, the first section of the motorway was commissioned.

Details of the first automobile section of the Olympic road (length 6 km with two intersections) are as follows:

-         length: 6 km

-         number of lanes: 4

-         estimated traffic speed: 80 km/h, with 30 km/h on feedlines

-         number of bridges and overpasses: 8

-         total length of bridges and overpasses: 2,241 m

-         total length of noise shields: 5,513 m.

The commissioning of this section allows all through traffic from Psou to Sochi to be redirected around Adler, relieving Aviatsionnaya Street and improving the distribution of traffic flow on the Adler Ring Road, as required by continuing construction work.

An intersection of the principal Adler-Alpika motorway and the projected M-27 road (high-speed expressway) links Adler, Vesyoloye, Krasnaya Polyana, and the Imereti Lowland.

The estimated traffic flow along the Adler-Krasnaya Polyana motorway at the point where it crosses the M-27 Dzhugba-Sochi road will be 25,220 vehicles a day.
