The Yurkharovskoye gas condensate deposit

The Yurkharovskoye gas condensate deposit is the second largest deposit above the Arctic Circle, after the Yamburg deposit, in terms of output, meeting 10% of domestic demand. Total annual natural gas output at full design capacity is 33 billion cu m. The Yurkharovskoye gas condensate deposit utilises the most advanced technologies making it possible to minimise damage to the delicate Arctic environment.

Notably, a thermal drilling sludge decontamination unit was commissioned in 2008, making it possible to prevent environmental pollution.

This deposit is unique in that it has  its own methanol production unit, which eliminates the environmental risks linked with the delivery of chemically active products. The gas and chemical production facility is quite unique because methanol production units had never before been built in such a harsh climate anywhere else in the world and integrated with deposits.

A 340-km gas condensate pipeline linking the Yurkharovskoye gas condensate deposit and the Purovsk gas condensate refinery has been built. This is the first gas condensate pipeline that has been built in the past 25 years and it will provide the required transport infrastructure for expanding regional deposits along its course. Alternative energy sources, namely, solar and wind energy, facilitate the operation of the pipeline’s automated systems.

Moreover, various technologies which have been tested at the Yurkharovskoye gas condensate deposit can be successfully used to exploit deposits that are farther north, including those on the Yamal Peninsula, which are a part of a significant programme in the gas sector’s long-term plans.
