Shell is a world leader in energy and petrochemicals with over 100,000 employees in more than 90 countries.
Through its joint ventures Shell is efficiently engaged in oil and gas exploration and production in 39 countries. The company produces 2% of global oil and 3% of global gas, and owns a network of 44,000 petrol filling stations.
Shell's revenue in 2009 made up $287,200 mln, and net income
$12,700 mln. Its investments into R&D amounted to over $1,100 mln.
Several companies and joint ventures with Shell participation are operating in the Russian Federation, including Sakhalin Energy Investment Company Ltd. (Sakhalin-2 operator) and Salym Petroleum Development (development of Salym oil-fields). Shell's personnel in Russia totals about 2,700 (including joint ventures), of which about 80% are Russian nationals.
Other major Shell projects in Russia include: lubricants production complex in Torzhok, Tver Region; 4% in the total cargo carriage volume of Sovcomflot; more than 20% share in the Russian motor oil market; a network of petrol filling stations in the Central and North-Western Districts of Russia; aircraft fuelling at Domodedovo Airport (Shell and Aerofuels joint venture); interest in the Caspian Pipeline Consortium; comprehensive services to oil and gas companies, including development and putting into operation of new products and catalysts.
