Boeing is one of the world's largest manufacturers of commercial jetliners and military aircraft, telecommunication satellites and launch vehicles, which are among the leaders in manned missions and spacecraft launch services.
The company has clients in over 90 countries. Boeing employs more than 150,000 people working in 48 US states and 70 countries. Its main production facilities are located in Seattle, Washington, in California and in St. Louis, Missouri. Boeing corporate headquarters are located in Chicago, Illinois.
Boeing has two major business units, which are Boeing Commercial Airplanes (BCA) and Boeing Defence, Space & Security (BDS).
With the merger of Boeing and McDonnell Douglas in 1997, Boeing built up its leadership in commercial aviation. Today, the main commercial products are the 737, 747, 767 and 777 families of airplanes and the Boeing Business Jet. New product development efforts are focused on the Boeing 787 Dreamliner, whose commercial service is scheduled to start in 2011. The company has nearly 12,000 commercial jetliners in service worldwide, which is roughly 75% of the world fleet.
