Alexander Volkov, President of the Republic of Udmurtia

Born on December 25, 1951 in the city of Bryansk.
Education
Graduated from the Bryansk Civil Engineering College in 1970 and the Perm Polytechnic Institute in 1978, and earned a diploma from the Moscow International Business Institute at the Russian Foreign Trade Academy in 1996.
Experience
1970-1986: Foreman, chief engineer of a division, chief engineer of the agency, chief of building authority at the Chepets Building Agency in the city of Glazov.
1987-1989: Chairman of the Executive Committee of the Glazov Soviet of People's Deputies.
In 1989 was appointed first deputy chairman of Gosplan of the Udmurtian Autonomous Soviet Socialist Republic.
1990-1993: Held the post of deputy chairman of the Council of Ministers and simultaneously that of chairman of Gosstroy of the Udmurtian ASSR.
In 1993 appointed chairman of the Council of Ministers of the Republic of Udmurtia and elected deputy of the Federation Council of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation.
1995-2000: Chairman of the State Council of the Republic of Udmurtia, member of the Federation Council of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation
Won the 2000 election to become the first president of the Republic of Udmurtia. Was re-elected in March 2004.
In 2009 the State Council of the Republic of Udmurtia conferred the powers of the president of the Republic of Udmurtia on Alexander Volkov at the suggestion of the president of the Russian Federation.
Awards and recognition
Doctor of Economics. Holds several state decorations and commemorative medals. His hobbies include cross-country and downhill skiing.
Personal Life
Married, with a son, a daughter and four grandchildren.
