Prime Minister Vladimir Putin tours a biathlon centre in Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky

Kamchatka Territory Governor Alexei Kuzmitsky told the prime minister about plans to reconstruct the biathlon centre and build a winter sports park and the Gora Moroznaya Alpine Ski Resort.

According to Kuzmitsky, this centre, which meets international standards, was built to host the International Vitaly Fatyanov Prize Biathlon Tournament. The centre's overall area is 37,500 square metres, including a warm-up route 600 to 1,000 metres long.

The governor also mentioned that the Kamchatka Territory planned to bid for the Biathlon World Junior Championships in 2014 or 2015 and the 2016 Biathlon World Championships. The ski and roller-ski track will be renovated and fitted with all the required equipment and outdoor exercise facilities will be set up. The big sports park will include an ice arena, stadiums, ski and alpine ski centres, administrative centres and hotels. In reply to Vladimir Putin's question about the cost, Alexei Kuzmitsky said the estimated cost was still being prepared. The prime minister instructed the governor to prepare the cost estimate.

The governor also added that two- or three-storey buildings will be constructed next to the winter sports park. During the competition they will house the athletes and after the championships they will be given to people currently living in rundown and hazardous housing.

The prime minister toured the shooting range and talked with the Kamchatka Territory's head biathlon coach, Segrei Mishkin and some of the young athletes who were training in the stadium. The prime minister wished them all success at the next competition and posed with them for photographs.
