

Tiksi is a township and the centre of Yakutia's Bulun ulus.
It is located east of the Lena River estuary on the coast of Lena Bay in the Laptev Sea. Tiksi means "meeting" in the Yakut language.
The settlement was established in 1933 to act as a station along the Northern Sea Route. This is one of Russia's northernmost ports, with the navigation period lasting from July until October.
The population of Tiksi is over 5,000 and consists of Yakuts, Russians and Ukrainians. The settlement is divided into two neighbourhoods: Tiksi-1 and Tiksi-3. People are largely employed in the fields of transport, communications and public services.
