Education

Graduated from the Moscow Physical Technical Institute with a degree in Management and Applied Mathematics before joining a postgraduate programme.

Experience

1986-1988: Automatic Systems Research Institute, Microelectronic Onboard Systems Department

1989: took part in the creation of the Microcard and Girvas cooperatives and later the Microdin enterprise, which specialised in software and computer hardware.

1990: elected to the board of directors of Microdin.

1990-1993: deputy chief of the directorate of the Intersectoral Commercial Bank Resurs Bank.

1993-1995: deputy chairman of the board of the Russian trading bank RATO Bank.

1994: member of the board of directors of AMO ZIL and Permskiye Motory plants.

March-December, 1995: President of the board of Resurs Bank. Between January and September 1996, Director-General of the company Interros.

1996-2000: First Deputy Director-General of the company Norilsk Nickel.

2001-2002: First Deputy Director-General, First Vice-President, member of the management and board of directors of Norilsk Nickel, member of the board of the Russian joint stock company Norilsk Nickel.

October 2002: appointed Deputy Chairman of the State Committee of the Russian Federation for Physical Culture and Sport.

Was elected Governor of the Tver Region on December 21, 2003. Assumed office on December 30, 2003.

Chairman of the Supervisory Board of the National Sailing Sports Federation.

Member of the Presidium of the National Alpine Skiing Federation.

Chairman of the Board of the Union of Nuclear Energy Sites and Enterprises (2005-2009).

In December 1999 became the founder and the head of Managers Association, a non-governmental organisation of which he is president to this day.

Married, with two daughters and two sons.
