Troitsky site, in Novgorod

The Troitsky site is located south of Novgorod's Kremlin, and spans an area of 816 square kilometers. Currently being excavated is a section south of Chernitsyna Street, which must have been on the outskirts of the Lyudin Konets borough in the 10th-11th centuries.

Each phase of the on-site work has been photographed.

Archaeologists have explored the remnants of nineteen various structures, classified as belonging to three different strata, as well as outhouses, gates and pavements. One stratum of a side street has been explored.

Each of the structures found at the site have been recorded and photographed.

During works at the Troitsky site, 101 tree samples have been taken for dendrologic and tree-ring tests.

In the course of statistical processing, some of the ceramic and osteological material has been selected for further study. The 1,302 objects found at the site have been inspected in a lab environment, photographed, recorded, and analyzed statistically.

More than a thousand birch-bark manuscripts have been found at the Troitsky site so far. The first example was uncovered on July 26, 1951.
